You see, campaigning to be the POTUS is quite a bit different than holding the job. Just ask GWB.
It really doesn't matter if Obama can keep a single promise. I think Obama will have done a great service to this country even if he in his FIRST 4 years is ONLY able to UNDO 10-15% of what Bush did in his 8 years

i can understand some of your apprehension about hiring people from clintons administration but given the turn of events in the last couple of months it really is the wise choice. our country is in real trouble right know, thanks to your boy bush, and Ob has to make the right choices in staff even if it means some people saying its not a change.

would you rather Ob take a chance with hiring newbies to tackle this financial mess and let the country go up in flames just so he can say he stuck to his promise at every level or would you rather him change his strategy as the situations changes so as to better the country?

maybe some would rather him take the 1st option so you could blame him for everything. sorry i think he's smarter than that!

This is a nice email I just received.

Sly --

Today and yesterday, President-elect Barack Obama announced key members of an economic team tasked with creating jobs, stabilizing the economy, and getting our country back on track.

Barack is bringing together some of the best minds in the country to make swift progress on the economic challenges we face.

Timothy F. Geithner, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, will serve as Secretary of the Treasury. Lawrence H. Summers, former Secretary of the Treasury under President Clinton, will serve as Director of the National Economic Council.

Christina D. Romer will serve as Director of the Council of Economic Advisers, Melody C. Barnes will serve as Director of the Domestic Policy Council, and Heather A. Higginbottom will serve as Deputy Director of the Domestic Policy Council.

Peter Orszag, currently Director of the Congressional Budget Office, will serve as Office of Management and Budget Director, and Rob Nabors will serve as Deputy Director.

Watch the video of Barack's announcement yesterday and learn more about the economic team:

Learn more about Barack's economic team

Barack's economic team has already begun work on a recovery plan, and he'll provide progress updates in the coming weeks. He'll also provide their initial recommendations to the incoming Congress.

You'll be instrumental in generating support to pass legislation that puts America on the road to recovery.

While we can't underestimate the challenge we face, we also can't underestimate the opportunity we have to bring the change our country needs.

Thanks,

David

I think I posted it, ohhh,,,,,,,,,,,,20 or 30 times, that BO = SOS (same old shit). However, it IS heartening to see and hear countless liberals now furiously backpedalling from their previous position that BO would inevitably walk on water and solve all socio-economic problems in a single bound, even before he actually takes office. Too bad for us they weren't right.
Well, I just call 'em as I see 'em. Like your assertions on liberals, that is the biggest pile of shitheadism and hyperbolic exaggeration on this thread. Can't you clowns stick with the facts? What back pedaling? We want Obama in because he isn't some lockstep cowboy cartoon show, we need someone who actually knows how to lead instead of playing your stupid "gotcha" games.

You just post more AM radio soundbite thinking, ridiculous generalizations, and all the rest of the Limbaugh crap thats been stuffed in your head. It's the reason the GOP loses seats every election, you people have run out of ideas and become a clown show.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

Sorry buddy, I'm only referring to the things that were promised immediately, like the tax cut for 95% of Americans. I think we will either have it within the first 3-4 months, or we will have a definite plan for it to be implemented as promised right? The other stuff that most BO proponents thought would happen within the first 90 days of his Presidency, I can wait for. Only the farthest of the left would consider making an apology such as this: "It really doesn't matter if Obama can keep a single promise." I guess it only matters if it's promises the "other guy" makes. I too have hope, but it's realistic hope.

I haven't quoted or posted a single "soundbite" as you call them. Surely you've seen the Golden Child and his cronies telling us (post election of course), how tough it's really going to be? How we're going to have to cut programs etc. I watched him fumble (yes fumble, stutter, etc.) his way through that patch of good news this morning (CNN I believe, but don't quote me on that). That, Mr. Shithead, is a fact. Find me a speech with the same content that was written and spoken before 11-4? Something along the lines of "we're going to have to make some serious cuts" as he said this morning. This is not a game, show me. You can't, because before the election, he was saying and doing what he was told to say to get elected. He's a smart guy, he just wasn't forthcoming with what he already knew was going to be a real shit storm. The markets were do for an adjustment, and no matter who is in the White House, it WILL return to normal in time.

You're damn right I'll quote you. The real way out of this mess is to stop the insane defense spending we have been engaged in for the last eight years, and end the American Empire's idiotic foreign bases. We could cut defense spending by 25%, end the war in Iraq, pull all US troops out of Europe, and never miss any of it.
I never said I disagree with this approach, but I am being a realist. What are the chances of this happening? Look how many American people have been simply duped into believing that somehow we are fighting a righteous war in Iraq to free Iraqi people from tyranny? And our soldiers who drop phosphorus and cluster bombs on innocent civilians are called "heroes defending our freedom"?

And the minute Obama tries to cut the defense spending, he will be accused of selling out the America to terrorists. Yes, the 9/11 has been a Godsend for right-wingers - it allowed them to loot and plunder the US treasury to finance the most insane military buildup in history. Who the heck needs a $ 100 billion missile defense system which never works 90% of the time, and when any long range missile threat from small nations is nonexistent? As if we didn't know the real purpose behind it - to resurrect the Cold War and to provoke the Russians and others into a full scale nuclear arms race. Which means unreal profits for the military-industrial complex. At the expense of decent wages, job security, functional health care system, etc. for the US general population.

Obama has a monumental task ahead of him. If he is able to accomplish even a fraction of what he promised, I will applaud him.

Actually, the things I see him saying today, while they differ from the campaign promises, are the right things. I think he said we need to do a line by line review of the budget, and we do. I think he said we need to get the deficit under control, and we do. And I think those two things, while spending on roads and other things to fix them and make jobs while we do, seem to have precedent over cutting anyone's taxes. I couldn't see how he could start writing checks out of the treasury with the deficit we have. Bluntly put, I don't see failing to deliver on a couple of those promises as being a bad thing. We can't afford to advance socialism, at least not as much as he promised.
