I've used one called Video ReDo that will join files together. Used it to edit out commercials after "taping" TV shows.

If you get QuickTime Pro, you'd be surprised at all the stuff you can do. But I use Final Cut Express at home, and FCS Pro at work.

Depends a little bit on what kind of MPEG's they are (regular MPG, MP2, or MP4). Also depends on what version of iMovie.

May look into this: Squared 5 - MPEG Streamclip video converter for Mac OS X

Do a little research on QuickTime Pro, and plugins like Flip4Mac. I have also used a pair of products to help with stuff like this. One is "IShowU", which is a good cheap screencam utility. I honestly cannot remember the other but it converts to/from QuickTime and WMV formats, etc.

I considered Squared 5 but I was worried that they might just give you a demo rather than a functioning editor. I will try it shortly and let you know how it goes.
Yes I want to join all sorts of mpeg, avi, flv... even find a converter to unify the format if possible.
