It isn't difficult to demonstrate how a lack of liability insurance can endanger or curtail the personal liberties of others.

Good idea. Let's extend that to drinkers, smokers, bikers, and especially to folks with unhealthy diets. Fat f**kers shouldn't get a dime.

On a personal level, yes. In the broad scheme, the bills incurred by bodies flying through the windshield and ending up in the Dunkin' Donuts parking lot belong to you and me.

As do all the rest. People should be encouraged to wear seat belts, just as they should be discouraged against swimming in candiru-infested waters. It just shouldn't be legislated...

Simple. Reinstate slavery for violators. Medical coverage, retirement benefits, and education costs greatly reduced.

As usual, Shane's the voice of reason...poorly dressed and embellished, but the voice of reason nonetheless

As a New Hampshire native, I can assure you they practice the most unusual libertarian politics in the country. The only widespread tax is the property tax (highest in the US) and a tax on business profits, no trickle-down shit going on there, they go right for the money. Otherwise, the state has a monopoly on liquor sales, which they sell so cheap half of the Northeast drives there every Friday night to take on a load which is sold pretty much on the side of the highway, they hold a monopoly on gambling, and they tax the shit out of cigarettes, fine the crap out of you for just about anything, - all of this is how they squeeze the poor. Tourists get the ass jam good, they tax the crap out of hotels and resturants, rental cars and airlines, and the toll roads are free coming into the state, but higher than a kite going out. No income tax. No sales tax. The rich get screwed and the poor enjoy blowing their money on sin, which in turn flows into the state coffers. In other words, it's a state run by guys just like me.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address
