Israel is under constant rocket attack in that area, while they may have over-reacted, they are within their rights of self defense to do this. I was much more disturbed to hear they are using their court system unfairly against Arab homeowners in order to confiscate property in East Jeresuleum. Sometimes I wonder if they didn't adopt some aspects of Nazism, they sound like the fucking SS.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address

My friend who is from Indian side of Kashmir recently came back from a visit and had some disturbing stories to tell, especially about the starvation and deaths and the above. This sux!
It's a shame on the human race that many people suffer and continue to suffer due to political/economic interests of others. Very unlike natural disasters which we have no control of, it's people making life miserable for other people. Real shame. Even animals of the wild don't do this.

What's happening in Gaza (and in Kashmir and many parts of Africa, etc.) is largely politically motivated. In Gaza, it's Israelis turning daily life into hell for Palestinians. As the US and the so-called international community side with Israel even if it's the culprit, the suffering will continue and the media will turn a deaf ear. Only when a fire-cracker of a rocket is hurled into an Israeli colony will the media come to life.

In Kashmir, it's not only economics but also politics that make India a better ally. Everybody want Pakistan under control and Indian politicians are not only happy to do the job but are also willing to deal with Israel. Am I paranoid or is it that Israel has turned the region into a complete mess?

Tahloube, I wish I could assure you (and me) that our new incoming administration will address these issues in a fair and equitable manner...but...

Rocket attacks are a message of resistance more than an actual act. They are home-made, low-range, primitive projectiles that cause almost no harm other than breakdowns among settlers.

If Israel has the right to self-defence against these rockets, then why don't Palestinians have the same right to retaliate against Israeli air raids and incursions? If a fire cracker justifies an air raid, then an air raid justifies a nuclear attack, not just another fire cracker 'attack'.

Israel is wasting no time. They are creating facts on the ground: building colonies in the West Bank, erecting their apartheid wall, driving Palestinians out of Jerusalem, plaguing the media with their tantrums, waging wars whenever they see appropriate and, whether you like it or not, they influence key decision makers of the world.

I think Zionism and Nazism are two faces of the same coin. Only when Zionism is defeated will the world speak out loud against it. Until then, they will continue to silence individual voices.

I think every troop should be made to do this for at least 2 or 3 months out of a year as part of their assignment. (Many people will find this very controversial). As far as India and countries like it are concerned, I think we should starve them financially and hit them where it counts, their business and commerce. Put tough sanctions on them and NEVER let loose unless they can PROVE beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have changed/complied. No military support should be given to them and this BUSH just signed a nuclear deal with them! We talk about China's gross human rights violations, but in all fairness, India is not too far behind.

war and peace are two opposite concepts: I'm bug to listen people speaking about "peacekeeping". It's a farce, isn't it? war ALWAYS roots in economic and power intrests.

Update:

PRESS RELEASE FROM VITTORIO ARRIGONI

Date : 11-21-2008

Manifestly violating every human and civil right and against every international law. I spent the last six hours with Andrew locked in a piggish toilette full of fleas and parasites and without drinking water. This was the treatment we received because we announced a hunger strike in order to ask for the restitution of the fishing boats stolen to Palestinian fishermen offshore Gazan coasts when we were kidnapped by Israeli soldiers.

They took away the telephones we were given yesterday by our lawyer but, even more shameful and clearly violating international laws, they prevented us from getting in touch with our lawyers and with our consulates even though Andrew and I asked for it tenaciously many times.

In order to report these regrettable events I had to stop my hunger strike so that I could have back my telephone and pass on this reporting. Based on what I could hear before they separated us, Andrew will keep staying in that cell (absolutely non compliant with every standard of every convention about detention and human rights) as long as he will continue his hunger strike.

The detention I lived today and Andrew is still living can be considered a real torture more than a punishment.

It’s more than probable that Darlene, who is continuing her hunger strike, is suffering the same inhuman treatment.

I’m about to report this seriously severe event to the Italian, the Scottish and the American consulates.

It’s important being constantly informed about mental and physical conditions of our friends.

Tomorrow I will have to turn to urgent medical treatments to cure dozens of bites from insects and parasites which attack me every night leaving my body full of sores.

Vittorio Arrigoni, kidnapped in an Israeli prison in Ramle.

21st November 2008, 6 p.m.

Vittorio Arrigoni is one of the three peace activists arrested by Israel (along with 14 Palestinian fishermen). The other two are US citizen Darlene Wallach and British citizen Andrew Muncie.

Israeli detention inhuman? How could it be? Aren't they the ONLY democracy in that region? Did someone lie to us again?

^ The ONLY democracy in the region imprisoned 8000 children during alAqsa Intifada, 95% of whom were subjected to torture.

The ONLY democracy runs Gaza now Now wonder Egypt is tightening the borders.
