Avoid the chains such as Mortons, Chris, etc! Stick w/ the one-of-a-kind restaurants that are known for their steaks. There are at least a dozen in SF. The best way to decide is to Google them, then read-up, and make your own decision.
I must respectfully disagree. I've been to several of them and for the quality of the steak, none has beat Ruth Chris' (I'm a NY Strip or Porterhouse guy). If he's here for two weeks and wants to shop around that's a great idea, always good to search out the local haunts to get more of the SF flavor, but if he's simply visiting and wants to be assured of an excellent dinner, RC's will be hard to beat. I've never had anything less than outstanding food and service there.

The caveat to the OP is that if you have eaten at a RC's anywhere, then you know what to expect and if you want something else, I'd say Bobs.

I'd also second KV's suggestion to PM Cascade. He lives out in Gold country now, but he lived in the BA for a long time. There are lots of other members (like me) that are transplants, but we know the area pretty well.

Depending on when you're out here, you might be able to convince Joe55 and I to come and meet you at Tarantino's if you decide to try it. Always good to meet other members.

From place to place I have found the chains to be very inconsistent in both quality of beef and service. Those of us beef-lovers who eat and live in the Kansas City ("Cow Town") area I can say from many years of personal experience that, w/ few exceptions, the chains do not compare well w/ "real" steakhouses. There are a couple of smallish chains, such as The Palm and Capitol Grill, which are consistently good, but they are the exceptions--not the rule. In KC, real steak people snicker when someone recommends Mortons or Chris. They're not necessarily bad, just not the real deal, IMO.

^ You may not know anything about money, but you appear to know lots about eating. And, I happen to agree completely.

REALLY?

I hope you're joking. It's good food, but recommending it as a great steak house is like suggesting Denny's for breakfast. Ugh.

Look, on the way back, stop by my place and I'll cook you a decent steak the way it's supposed to be. And I won't even charge you $100 / plate.

heh heh... Surely it does not compare to red meat shrines in my area such as Peter Luger, Old Homestead or my personal favorite Frankie & Johnny in Hoboken; however, I do like the place and holistically speaking, Outback gets high marks for consistency of service and kid friendliness.

My daughter loves Joey Sirloin with double order of steamed broccoli.
