McCain fared as well as was possible, IMO. He had an impossible tightrope to walk -- hang onto the GOP Bushie base while bringing in the middle.

Who do you imagine was up to continuing the GOP legacy after the last 8 years? Wasn't gonna happen......

I don't think anyone was available. That was the problem. That "strong candidate, with minimal baggage" was purely hypothetical. Although I think the baggage made it hard to get close.

Much to add here but it has become a moot point.

Naw, it is the prelude to 2012 and the Palin run.

It really is a discussion of the breakdown of the vaulted Republican political machine on some levels. And it asks the question, what will be the response as the pendulum moves toward the left as they try to regain traction. Obviously the current tactics of Fear, Uncertainty, Confusion and Dread [FUCD] didn't work.

Ideology and news commentary from a White racial perceptive.
Weekly broadcasts from Dr. William L. Pierce.

Who's this Pierce guy?

William Luther Pierce III (September 11, 1933 – July 23, 2002) was the leader of the white separatist National Alliance organization,
and a principal ideologue of the white nationalist movement.
First educated as a physicist, he later worked with George Lincoln Rockwell, the founder of the American Nazi Party.
He achieved notoriety as the author of a novel, The Turner Diaries (1978), written under the pseudonym Andrew Macdonald.
He founded a religion he called Cosmotheism, which was an admixture of panentheism, White Nationalism and separatist world-views.

Now that's fair and balanced, right?

Not
Why don't you try attacking the message, not the author?

See. You just keep rubbing the Obama rise to power in...oh, you meant "vaunted".

I suppose it just goes to show that if you want to run a Rove campaign, it's best to enlist Karl for the job and not just have him as an "informal advisor".

You are correct, I meant vaunted.

And the Rove reference is important. At some point he is going to go to someone and say, "if you had listened to me..." It will be interesting to see if his mojo is still high. Folks seem to have soured on really pissy campaigning. His day might have passed.

That Bill Clinton proved a one trick pony means that everyone is?

Indeed, there was a stronger ticket available:

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

That would have been odd. I suppose the only thing with more international experience than Sarah Palin, is an actual Russian?
