Neil Young starts Linc Volt electric car conversion company

Sure, you've got a couple Neil Young CDs and maybe a battered Farm-Aid T-shirt, but if you're really into ol' Shakey, you'll pick up one of his hotrod electric Lincoln conversions. Yep, Neil's started a company called Linc Volt to develop electric car technologies, and he's already converted his own personal '59 Lincoln in an attempt to win the Automotive X-Prize -- a process that's the subject of an upcoming documentary. Young says he's mostly focused on developing the tech -- Linc Volt will provide instructions as well as performing the actual conversions. Sure, we're into it -- just make sure it's got one of those rumbling speaker systems and we'll take two.

The technology is there for it. And a good large chassis car is great for holding the equipment. I have been talking to a couple of folks about conversion of the 300SEL to electric for an in town commuter. Mainly as an experiment but also to push the technology. The motors and trannies are all in place now, and if you use solar to drive the chargers, there is minimum aftercosts.

It would be an interesting test.

Let's see, in the past 48 hours I have flown to DC and back, presented a proposal [won't know if it is approved for six months], back here, moved a bunch of stuff today and finally, FINALLY got ahold of the dipshit that has had a car in my shop for a year and got him to come and get it. That took 4 hours this afternoon/evening.

Oh, and the blacktop folks can't seem to get their schedule straightened out enough to finish the work so I have a driveway that I can't get into.

And tomorrow I go to Morehead for a funeral.

Otherwise it's a good week.

Man Bear, I'm sorry for keeping my "Gullwing" in your shop for so long.
