You guys are great, you think the rabid right wing is going to join you in your victory? No chance in hell. The right is already gearing up for slamming Obama for anything he does. Fear and hate does not die because someone gets elected.
Again, their reaction is going to be what it is, and it is not my or anyone else's charter to judge it. Immediately it is going to be normal to want to pick and snap at Obama's every move. Over time, it is Obama's challenge to bring in to the process their leadership and depend on their leadership to bring those who are willing to process.
I have participated in, and witnessed exactly such changes in relationships between management and unions at my old place of work. As nuclear submarine product went from 3 or 4 ships a year to half a ship a year, instead of meting out the consequences to union labor in process they were not privy to, the company enlisted union officials, gave them a seat on the board of directors, to arrive a process of consolidation and modernization to remain profitable at a severely curtailed production rate. It was not all milk and cookies but the ultimate goal of keeping the joint open and profitable worked. No strikes and no productivity slow downs on a union organized and supported scale. Yes, there were individuals who were not signed up to the process, but overall the work force did a remarkable job of coming together to survive hard times.
The same is possible on a larger scale, and I think Obama has the guts to pull it off. Cynicism won't be helpful from either side. Jim
