"What's the G20?''

Call to investigate leaked call between Rudd and Bush

PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd should launch an investigation into the leaking of details of a sensitive phone call he had with US President George W Bush, former foreign minister Alexander Downer says.

Details of the call to discuss the global financial crisis were reported last week in The Weekend Australian.

During the call, Mr Bush reportedly responded to Mr Rudd's suggestion of a G20 summit to deal with the crisis by saying: "What's the G20?''.

US officials and Mr Rudd's office have since denied Mr Bush made any such remark.

But today, The Daily Telegraph reported senior Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade diplomats were concerned that the leak may damage Australia's alliance with the US.

Mr Downer today said the conversation should not have been leaked.

"It's not just that President Bush wouldn't like it, and you could say that doesn't matter because he finishes in January, it's that officials generally in the United States and in other countries would think: `These people in Australia, you want to be very careful what you say to them in a private conversation','' Mr Downer told ABC Television.

"The smart thing for Kevin Rudd to do would be now to set up an inquiry into what actually happened here, because I think that would help to clear the air a lot and I think officials would very much appreciate that.''

Mr Downer said he expected Democrat Barack Obama to easily win Tuesday's US election.

"I would say to Mr Rudd, by the way in your private conversations with President Obama, be discreet,'' he said.

It’s a Glock 10mm semi auto pistol.

I’m sure the president’s a Glock fan – he has no taste.

He'll have plenty of time to use it after January at the ranch.
