The "some reason" is where you can stick your fantasy from the right wing idiot wind - WMDs (kind of a long shot since there presence in Iraq at any time from 1990's post first Gulf War to 2003 has been thoroughly debunked now), or the Saddam to Al Qaeda connection (also pretty thoroughly debunked) or the un-debatable need to use US forces to free the Iraqis from the tyranny of Saddam and turn their country into a battle zone for a decade or more (which defies the Congressional Resolution that was reached after considerable debate that said we would support the ouster of Saddam but only with resources like money and weapons, but no soldiers in the country, a Resolution that was specifically not superseded by the one that authorized the invasion of Iraq to protect America from imminent danger from WMDs and Saddam's close relationship to Ossamma Bin Laden) or to support the wholly morally bankrupt concept of "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here" when "over there" is in a country that had nothing to do with the 9-11 attack and has now been converted from a functional society run by a mean ass dictator to a non-functional society run by a poorly coordinated US military and local government that, after 5 years cannot even keep water and electricity flowing, or maintain a semblance of the order that existed when Saddam was still in power.

When you examine all the bullshit reasons that have been promoted for our invasion and occupation of Iraq, and then are forced to discard them because they have either been admitted to be false or are just not true because the facts don't support them, you are left with the horror of realizing our two oil company executives running the executive branch of the US government are in it for the oil. It is a horror to come to the conclusion that anyone would send our kids to Iraq to die for oil we could have bought on the open market for likely less than we are paying now. To keep sending them there is even more of a horror.

Jim
Well, if we/they are just "in it for the oil", wouldn't we/they have moved to take control of the oil fields or at least find some way to direct most if not all Iraqi oil to the US? Just wondering.

You tell me. Is Halliburton done raping the defense budget? Once the gravy train of war profiteering ends, we may see the US oil companies make a more direct move. Just can't end the profiteering at its height, and, hell, you sure can't end it before the stage is set to get US oil in there. Jim

Iraqis don't seem to want Hussein in power. What the fuck do they know.

Now if they would just move their Corporate Headquarters back to American so they would pay their fair share of taxes instead of being so UNAMERICAN and hiding their assets, they might be a better citizen.

Well, there is the abuse of the ol No Bid Contract thing and the losing of Billions of dollars of cash in Iraq and the overbudget spending of US Taxpayers money. But hey, it's the NeoCon American way...for about 90 more days.

Not that I give a crap either way, but given your theoretical standard of outward appearance, Obama looks more like the Iraqis than Johnny-boy, so are you saying they aren't as smart as the Martians?

And where is Ray Walston when you need him, anyway?

Speaking of that, I'd vote for a guy with retractable antenna in his head over either of them. On the other hand, my vote has already been cast for me by the fact that I live in California, so maybe I will write in Ray Walston, since it has no effect anyway.

Not sure about smarter, but definitely more involved in the situation with more to lose if Obama is elected - like the $12 per month subsidy of their economy. Kind of like how come a crook with a good scam going doesn't want another crook to be mayor of the city who might recognize the scam and put an end to it.
