DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) - Syria's state-run television and witnesses say U.S. military helicopters have attacked an area along the country's border with Iraq, causing casualties.
The report quoted unnamed Syrian officials and said the area is near the Syrian border town of Abu Kamal. It gave no other details on Sunday's attack.
Local residents told The Associated Press by telephone that two helicopters carrying U.S. soldiers raided the village of Hwijeh, 10 miles inside Syria's border, killing seven people and wounding five.
The U.S. military in Baghdad had no immediate comment.

This has the potential to go to Obama's favor. Since much of McCain's Iraq policy is tied directly to Bush and this can be perceived as a reckless encroachment onto sovereign territory, it puts McCain in the position of AGAIN either going against Bush or endorsing the actions. There is going to have to be a pretty good PR campaign come out of the Pentagon to make justification a viable option.
This will only speed up McGranny's demise. Another war is what this country cannot afford and economics is more important right now. Instead of helping, injecting fear and heroism is only going to turn people off at this point. Wait till Wall Street opens in the morning, people really don't give a rat's ass what happens in the ME if it falls another 400 points. Asian market so far is mixed.
