High gas prices affect the lower and middle class people disproportionately. I think underemployed and unemployed are two terms for the same thing - someone who is unable to do the things a person needs to do in order to contribute to the economy in a meaningful way.

Price gouging is, in essence, wealth redistribution. The monopolistic / anticompetitive industry responsible for oil and gasoline are collecting money from everyone, and hoarding it irresponsibly.

I paid $2.29 for unleaded regular in Fairfield, Oh this week.
I thought some here were arguing that it wasn't a supply & demand issue?
Who was that?

I agreed with you the definition of price gouging. But that has nothing to do with crude price. Crude spot is one of the most market price instead of fixed price by one or more nations. It takes very large significant amount of money to move that spot in either direction. The world economy has to slow down before we are in $70 spot crude. Who wants or able to do that ?

I paid $2.19 yesterday, and I'm hoping we can get it under $2 by election day so that Sarah and the Old Guy can Triumph!

It's $2.11 here, but looking at historical trends at Gasbuddy.com, it should be around $1.89 here.
