Small business relies on an optimistic, confident consumer base that has disposable income to churn through the system. It requires folks being able to buy houses, buy paint for those houses, buy cars, buy all the things that make the world go round and round.

Look around you now. THAT set of conditions is not in play. Small business is going to suffer for the next couple of years while the foundation of this economy rebuilds. That can't be done with the same ol', same ol' economic doctrine, defined by Gramm and Kemp, two of McCain's leading economic advisers. THEY put us where we are today.

If the economic principles only were somehow parallel to the actual proposals. But they are not. So, while we understand "it". It is a different "it" than maybe you think.

There is also a good one about guys buying beer. It doesn't flow accurately either.

I work with a designer who is struggling to pay her bills.

Am I supposed to blame George W. Bush for their misfortune? How many of you reading this have a 65" PLASMA on the wall and $8500 sitting on a credit card because of it? Americans have been living beyond their means for years and now they are having to pay for it. If it did not happen this year it would have happened next. You cannot live your life on credit and not expect to get burned once and a while.
Let's just look a a couple of lines of this.
"How many cry baby stories have we heard about people losing their homes? How many of those people LIED about how much they make or how much they own?"
It is the responsibility of the bank, through both their charter AND by state and federal regulations to insure that the loan applications are accurate, security is intact and the viability of loans are reasonable. That is done by paystub, tax returns on the income side and appraisals and title checks on the collateral side. So who bears the responsibility?

"Am I supposed to blame George W. Bush for their misfortune?. For THEIR misfortune, NO. For the misfortune of the Millions of people fiscally damaged because Bush failed to insure that regulations on the books were stringently enforced to keep your Designer from getting the loan that helped pollute the system. YES, you can blame George W. Bush for that part.

You say that "The first thing that must be done is for you people to realize that YOU are responsible for your own actions." Tell those folks whose pension funds and 401Ks and jobs lost due to the Financial Crisis that it was THEIR FAULT and they should be responsible for those actions. I would suggest doing so from a distance.

Looks like George has some company in this. Look closely at the 2nd paragraph.

People always point fingers at others for their misfortune. Why they do not control their destiny in the first place ? Bush should not be blame for the bad loan. The congress is the one to control new legislation. Without new legislation the current system move on as usual. There is a group of congressman or senators oversee the financial market. They should be the one to blame if mcBear's compliant is valid.

WOW.

I am surprised in this climate that it was not signed. I wonder if there were other issues in it that polluted it and that another bill is coming down the pike, or freeway as they call it out there.

office, our company will instill a few new policies which are in keeping

1. All salespeople will be pooling their sales and bonuses into a
common pool that will be divided equally between all of you. This will
serve to give those of you who are underachieving a “fair shake.”

2. All low level workers will be pooling their wages, including
overtime, into a common pool, dividing it equally amongst yourselves.
This will help those who are “too busy for overtime” to reap the rewards
from those who have more spare time and can work extra hours.

3. All top management will now be referred to as “the government.” We
will not participate in this “pooling” experience because the law doesn't
apply to us.

4. The “government” will give eloquent speeches to all employees every
week, encouraging it's workers to continue to work hard “for the good of
all.”

5. The employees will be thrilled with these new policies because it's
“good to spread the wealth.” Those of you who have underachieved will
finally get an opportunity; those of you who have worked hard and had
success will feel more “patriotic.”

6. The last few people who were hired should clean out their desks.
Don't feel bad, though, because President Obama will give you free
healthcare, free handouts, free oil for heating your home, free
foodstamps, and he'll let you stay in your home for as long as you want
even if you can't pay your mortgage. If you appeal directly to our
democratic congress, you might even get a free flatscreen TV and a coupon
for free haircuts (shouldn't all Americans be entitled to nice looking
hair?) !!!

If for any reason you are not happy with the new policies, you may want
to rethink your vote on November 4th.

One interesting part of that. "All Republicans voted for it, All Democrats voted against". OK. But how did, as the report says the Democrats "BLOCK" it? In April 2005 the Senate, and this committee both had pure Republican majorities and there was never a hint of a filibuster, never a news conference suggesting that the Democrats would try to stop it from going to the Senate Floor. [ I would guess we would have seen that plastered all over Fox by now if those CSPAN taped did, in fact exist].

So, the question is, IF the Republicans all voted for this measure, and they had a majority [all that is required to get out of committee], why did this NOT go to the SENATE where the Full Majority of Senate would be eagerly awaiting for it?

Wonder if we were to ask McCain Campaign Manager Rick Davis or Senior Advisor Paul Manifort, Principles of Davis, Manafort & Freedman, a political consulting firm in Alexandria, Virginia which represented Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac during the time of that hearing. Think we would get a more clear answer?
