Moving to N. VA .. what are some good areas?

So i may be taking a job in Arlington, and i've started looking at places to live. But not knowing any of the areas, i'm trying not to consider in any bad spots to live.

I've accepted ~$1200/mo rent, and have mainly been looking in Fairfax and Alexandria so far.

What other good cities should i consider that are near a metro line or within a short drive to one?

Thanks!

It's beautiful around there, if not ridiculously expensive to live. The commutes can be hell, too. Anything around Falls Church and Tyson's Corner would probably be nice.

If your job is in Arlington why not rent in Arlington or Langley? Your commute will be much better but I personally have a soft spot for Alexandria (the old town that is).
If you manage to find something in Arlington you could be in for a treat. One is that you could literally walk to DC, to the heart of Georgetown by just crossing the Key Bridge. I used to do the reverse trip since I lived in Georgetown and most of my classmates where on the other side of the Potomac.

well Arlington is a bit out of my price range, and if i could just be outside of it but on the metro line, i wouldn't mind one bit. Alexandria looks lice from what i've been reading on there.

Are you moving by yourself or with a family? That makes a difference in the lifestyle and location you will pick.

Hell then don't commit to renting a whole apartment or house, a room will do. Start with that until you learn your way around the area, the cultural pulls that you like the most, the friends you will make and the best ways to get to work, then look for a place of your own. Go on craigslist!
