So according to your post above, Powell is nothing more than opportunistic Black man hoping to trade on his endorsement of possibly the next US President for financial gain? Do you as well believe that Obama and Powell have a written contract or a handshake deal?

No, I didn't say that. I said he was an OPPORTUNIST. That means, he's a politician, pure and simple. I didn't bring 'Black' into the equation, you did. Answer to your second question: No.

I said he was a PATRIOT.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address

So what you are saying Powell is doing this for financial gain and Powell is guilty of possibly accepting a bribe in the future and Obama is bribing him?

Respectfully, Robert. You need to go back and reread my posts and quit trying to put words in that I didn't say. I SAID HE WAS DOING IT FOR POLITICAL REASONS. You can assume what you wish, based on that.

So what does he gain politically as opposed to financially? I am just trying to get to the bottom of a republican conspiracy before it starts..........

You didn't hear this on Rush this morning did you?

Where are the inexperienced, white liberals Powell has endorsed?

I seldom quote Rush Limbaugh on anything, but his comments on the Powel endorsement are right on!

He said that Powell's decision to get behind Barack Obama appeared to be very much tied to Obama's status as the first African-American with a chance to become president.

"Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race," Limbaugh wrote in an e-mail. "OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I'll let you know what I come up with." (He has since acknowledge that he could find none...)

As for Powell's statement of concern this morning about the sort of Supreme Court justices a President McCain might appoint, Limbaugh wrote: "I was also unaware of his dislike for John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia. I guess he also regrets Reagan and Bush making him a four-star [general] and secretary of state and appointing his son to head the FCC. Yes, let's hear it for transformational figures."

Don't believe everything you think

It's not that he doesn't get it, it's that he refuses to get it.

An opportunist would have had six years to take thousands of jabs at Bush. Many before he even knew that Obama would be running for office. So it really doesn't make logical sense that he would just sit back and wait for this "perfect moment" to get in a dig. The other targets of opportunity have just been too rich if all he wanted was a petty dig.

Jay, thanks for quoting Rush. It crystallizes the argument that he doesn't have a clue and fully lacks any ability to be objective.
