First time tourist in Atlanta needs suggestions!!

I'm in Atlanta through Monday and could use some suggestions here.

It's my first time ever in ATLANTA or the South ever in fact and I could really use a few suggestions for my free time. I am here alone, and not especially interested in theme parks, or crass money grabbing tourist things, and family/children stuff (as I don't have any here with me....)

I have already made plans for a visit with the owner of AMG East, Jono, but beyod that I am pretty clueless, so any suggestions, or links are welcomed.

I have to go back to California on Monday

I have a car rented and my GPS with doan yew worry yore purdy little hayeads about thayat!!! lol

Thanks for your help!!!

Are you interested in Art? The High Museum downtown is pretty good. What about Civil War History? The Cyclorama would be cool. The Zoo is right next to the Cyclorama and the MLK center is a few exits before it on I-20.

If you want some of the best ribs in town go to Fat Matt's rib shack on Piedmont. Live Music (Soul Shakers are playing tonight), cold beer and Out of this world ribs. If you are a big eater the full rack will be a challenge! It is in a strip mall and you would think twice about going in if you did not know about it. It is clean and reaonably priced.

Stone Mountain is a pretty big deal. It isn't worth the price to go to the village (a wannabe Williamsburg, VA). But it is definitely worth the ride up the tram to the top, or if you want a good workout you can walk. The tram in $9.00 and parking is like $8.00 I think. On a clear day though it is a beautiful view and some good picture material if you are into photography.

It is kind of Touristy but there is the World of Coke. After that (Go EARLY if you are interested) there is a great Irish Pub in the Atlanta Underground called Irish Bred & Pub.

If you like Aquariums we have the biggest in the world now. I have been a couple of times with my daughter. I am an animal lover and it is always cool to see stuff like that through a kids eyes so you may not necessarily enjoy it as much by yourself.

For restaurant choices if you like Sea Food there is the Atlanta Fish Market.

If you want a dining experience you will never forget go to Fogo de Chao. A Brazillian steak house. Five star dining for a flat $45 plus your bar tab. You will not be disappointed if you like meat.

Welcome to Fogo de ChĂŁo

A great bar to go in the evening is a place called Fado's (fa-Doz). An Irish pub done up like the old school pubs in Ireland. Kind of campy in a way but I spent a fair amount of time in Ireland and it was like a wormhole back to the old country when I walked in. It is crowded on the weekend with the 20-30 something crowd.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Where are you staying? Buckhead's not near the scene it used to be. Go down to Virginia Highlands and do some good pub crawling. There's some neat bars in Vinings as well.

Drive to Hartsfield Airport, look around at the marvel that is the busiest airport in the country, then while you're there, get on a plane and get the fuck out of that godforsaken hell hole.

Hey Cascade, drop by the world of Coke, It's a neat place to learn the history of Coca Cola. Vickie and I have been collecting Coca Cola stuff for 25 years. And we have a few things that the Museum doesn't have.
