Socialism works. When the Government takes the wealth from someone and gives to someone who they deem worthy, it works right?
Funny, It never has. Not one time in Human history has taking from the rich and giving to the poor helped anyone much less proven to be a good long term economic policy. McBear's assertion that it would all get back into the hands of the same people in 20 years makes a very good point. Why create even more chaos and tumult by giving people free money? Let's look at a small slice of what happens when the Gov'ment just gives out free money.
We have all seen the reports:
So what happens? People who are poor by and large are in the situation because they make poor choices. Why is it that there are so many people who have been poor and then brought themselves out of the Socio-Economic basement? There are literally millions of examples of people who worked hard and went far. Are there people who have the unfortunate luck of being born into a particular cylcle of poverty? Absolutely. However, for every person who the deck is stacked against there is someone who gets out.
The dirty little politically incorrect secret is that people, no matter the race, religion, or any other variation that you want to divide the human race by, are inherrently lazy. Some people are willing to focus that laziness into hard work and earn early success so they can be lazy later in life. Others are satisfied with the survival lifestyle and seek immediate lives of leisure, the vast majority of people are somewhere in the middle.
So why is it good for the Gov'ment to come and take my money that I earned and give it to someone else who has not earned it? All that does is make me find ways to hide my resources or in lesser people just give up and go on the dole. I mean why work to achieve something that is not measurably better than if I just sit back be irresponsible?
C'mon guys. If you think that spreading the money around like Thornton Wilder says means to just give it away you are more idiotic than previously thought. Obviously money should be spread around, but only by the free exchange of goods and services. Not by a government coming and taking.
A simple explanation for all you higher education types is this. If I were to work my butt off and study and be conscientous about going to class and doing good work and earned a 4.0 but my roommate is a guy who has a learning disability and has trouble focusing in class and earns a 1.25 your theory would give him a point off of my GPA to help him out.
How is that fair?
