Don't count the Swift Boaters out just yet. The 527's are going to hit Obama with everything they have in the next few weeks while McCain plays "above it all" as he calls off his attack dog Palin. The stock market probably hit bottom when it went below 8,000 last week, and there should be some improvement in DOW averages, which McCain will claim credit for. The rest of the world is terrified by our debt position to the point they will be rolling over for us too, so the banking crisis should ease as well. I see the race getting tighter, but I still think McCain is ultimately toast. His last hurrah will be the debate Wednesday, where he has promised the RWNJ's he will bring up the Ayers red herring, a promise I doubt he will keep. Who knows what he will do - it is a real "hail mary" debate, and the odds are McCain ends up looking like a desperate fool, but you never know, he could parade Osama out at gunpoint on the stage. Or Bush. Osama or Bush, that's the ticket.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address
