I grew up in a small coal mining town in southeastern Kentucky. There were folks within a mile that still had outhouses. Learning life lessons from folks like that make this much easier to take.
But there are going to be a lot of people hurting from this. Of the 25-30 main posters on BWOT, I would not be surprised if we don't have 2-4 get smacked very hard. The odds are just in that favor and just because we all have benz, will not make us, as a group immune.
It's hurting everyone. As defensive as my portfolio is,I'm still getting hammered, so I can just imagine what a screaming nightmare this must be for those who have both feet in - luckily for me its all in the accounts I don't need for twenty years, but those cashing out now have got to be some hurting little puppies. The people getting it the worst are people who are forced to get out of their IRA at 70 yrs of age, that has got to be a motherfucker. The double whammy of low stock prices and bum interest has got to be doing a number on the elderly. I bet Florida is now solidly in play.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
