Commentary: McCain No. 2 is supposed to be able to deal with these people

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- If John McCain really wants to show some economic leadership and get a financial bailout package passed, he should send his vice-presidential candidate up to Capitol Hill to whip the party into shape.

Efforts to pass emergency legislation sought by the Bush Administration hit a snag Thursday when House Republicans balked at the $700 billion price tag and offered their own toned down rescue plan.

Democrats squealed like pigs who'd lost their lipstick.

So now McCain finds himself in an extremely awkward position for several reasons:

He's falling behind in the polls again.

He made a big deal about halting his campaign to help hammer out a rescue plan.

He's put the first national debate with Sen. Obama on hold because he's "suspended" campaigning.

And now he's getting blamed for egging on conservative House Republicans to gum up the works with their feigned concern for the taxpayer.

It's time to call in Sarah.

Just imagine: Palin goes up the hill, holds a closed-door meeting with the House Republicans and makes it clear that without the deal, there's no way she's getting to Washington or they're getting anywhere near the Rose Garden over the next four years.

She emerges, triumphant, vice-presidential and with gravitas. The vote is held. The legislation passes. The economy is saved, and people are left wondering what the heck Joe Biden ever did to break a logjam.

No way?

Stranger things have happened in Washington.

Palin won election on issues like being against men fucking each other in the ass. What the hell does she know about economics, hell the fucking idiot thinks the Earth is 6,000 years old.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

-President Barack Obama, 1st Inaugural address
