I have had a Canon EOS 5D for several years now and find its capabilities truly beyond mine, not that that would be difficult. I bought it to replace my Canon A2E film body and chose it mainly because I could continue to use my Canon lenses and because the sensor chip was a full size 35mm frame chip. Meaning the lenses worked exactly as intended and didn't need to have the focal length artificially adjusted upward to account for the fact that the typical sensor chip was smaller than the 35mm frame, meaning the edges of what the lens was able to bring into the frame were being "cropped" off by the size of the chip. Kind of involuntarily. But it won't make movies. This is like an all-in one digital camera. Mine may go on eBay.....

Nice post. Thanks, Jim

Does nobody else have high definition TV?

There has to be some sort of mode that the camera was in to produce that video, which turns the sharpness up to maximum levels. Photographs are rarely left to be that sharp.

Also helped that he had nothing but the finest lenses; I think the slowest he used was f/2.8. I understand there was a lot of night shooting, but you don't get a prime f/1.2 or f/2.8 lens because they're cheap. That's a VERY high dollar rig he used.

I sent the link to a friend at NYU's Media Lab. He is also a Canon guy. We will see what he has to say about the mode. I know my Olympus has an enhanced mode but I don't like it as it takes away information that I can use if I want later. And I can always kick up the images if wanted.

The external Gyro stabilizers certainly help in the motion shots. We played with them at the 2002 NAB and they really help crispness.

Everyone is coming out with new toys. My E500 [there is a trend] is old news now and it has on had two shooting seasons.
