B.) Try to slow down?
C.) Look around for a parachute?
D.) Run straight into the biggest tree you can find?
I have actually been in that very situation, all metaphors and parables aside, and went with option D. It was not an easy choice and resulted in a great deal of pain and discomfort. But it was the only option that didn't end with a long plunge and a loud splat.
