Top Ten Poverty Centers......

Interesting.........

Date: Monday, September 15, 2008, 9:18 AM What do the top ten cities with the highest poverty rate all have in common?

Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1961;

Buffalo , NY (2nd) hasn't elected a Republican mayor ? since 1954;

Cincinnati, OH (3rd)...hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1984;

Cleveland, OH (4th)...hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1989;

Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican mayor;

St. Louis, MO (6th)....hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1949;

El Paso, TX (7th) has never had a Republican mayor;

Milwaukee, WI (8th)...hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1908;

Philadelphia, PA (9th)...hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1952;

Newark, NJ(10th)...hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1907.

Einstein once said, 'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.'

It is the disadvantaged who habitually elect Democrats --- yet are still disadvantaged.

Opinion: The Disadvantaged remain disadvantaged because they are looking for a Liberal Democratic Government to give them something, when all they have to do is work for it.

Your table doesn't provide insight as to what the poverty status was when a Republican Mayor WAS in office. Or, more importantly a Republican Governor which usually addresses much more socio-economic policy than a Mayor. Remember, large cities are usually a metroplex of many communities, not just the single city entity.

Let's look at Ohio. Until January of 2007, Ohio had only had ONE Democratic Governor since 1975. That parallels Ohio's slide from economic powerhouse to one of the poorest states in the nation.

A large "city" is usually an urban setting with a mix of commerce and low rent apartments. Most of those projects were built as tax credits for land owners who couldn't sell their property any other way. This consolidation of poverty led to a core of voters who, by nature vote for the people who promise to help them. They, historically don't have tremendous job opportunity, education or local job prospects. Their family ties also exacerbate the problem.

You could introduce a Republican Mayor into ANY of the cities listed and the only thing that would happen would be a "downtown revitalization project" to bring in new nightclubs, sports arenas, and corporate centers, all floated on bond issues and would do nothing to impact the lives or living standards of the majority population of those cities.

Considering a "Generation" is statistically considered 20 years, the odds are you don't know of anyone that is 5th Generation "disadvantaged".

First, the definition changed radically in the 1960s so there is a maximum of 3Gen statistically using any contemporary understanding of the issue.

Easy there, Mcbear, I just copied this from an email. I didn't make this up, do the research or condone the information. Just something to be discussed.

When you added the line "Opinion: The Disadvantaged remain disadvantaged because they are looking for a Liberal Democratic Government to give them something, when all they have to do is work for it." the discussion started.

And that was easy.

Are you speaking of the "non-partisan" mayoral elections that most cities have?

I'm talking about the fact that Dems dominate local politics in metropolitan areas all over the country. I'm also talking as a Chicagoan. Even Phoenix has a Chicago Dem for a mayor.
