Yes I know, hence the question. VPOTUS is essentially an appointment, rather than an elected position. If McCain wins, then Palin quits, who gets to be VP? I am suggesting that the position is too important to be decided by political appointment, and that the founding fathers actually had a better tack. Last time it happened Spiro Agnew quit and Jerry Ford was appointed and approved by the Senate.

Any you are correct, we need some level of VETTING so we can know these folks. It might just keep an inexperienced person out of the mix. There would be nothing to keep a Presidential Nominee from placing Ernst Blofeld in as the VP choice and unless folks really dug for details, there would be no way of knowing their credentials.


Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
