I used to think you were pretty sharp.....there was a time when the VPOTUS was the runner up to the POTUS. The fucking political party assholes didn't like that. So that is not what we have today, and until you drown the parties, you won't get a positive response to your question. Jim

Yes I know, hence the question. VPOTUS is essentially an appointment, rather than an elected position. If McCain wins, then Palin quits, who gets to be VP? I am suggesting that the position is too important to be decided by political appointment, and that the founding fathers actually had a better tack. Further, I am suggesting that a separate vote would be a better tack yet.

You have to undo the political parties and get back to the runner up being the VPOTUS. That forced the POTUS to have an "outsider" on the inside and a representative for the next largest majority of the people involved. Everything else, including a separate vote, would be tainted (there's that word again) by party politics. Jim

Perhaps so, but at the very least, it would discourage the selection of a Sarah Palin (or Dan Quayle) by the likes of McCain to bolster his campaign.

^ OK, that was pretty funny. Perhaps you can forward a better example.

My point was, it was arranged to best suit the people of the United States before the political parties got power that was not intended. We don't need another election, we need to go back to the way the founding fathers set it up, as they were actually thinking of what was best for the people and the Union, not their fucking political party. As much as I hate him, I'd like to see the Jiminy Glick interview of Sarah Palin.

As you say, the twelfth amendment applies only to our electoral college, rather than the electorate. If the electoral college were abandoned...
