When this is over and the economy is back on the mend, take a moment to see who made out.
It will be the really rich who made out. They will benefit by buying all the substantive good shit left over once the air is let out of the rest of the "bubbles" and thereby further consolidate their grip on the economy. If you are not one of them, you are not rich enough to be one of the group of assholes who run the "Republican" Party right now. Anyone who is not that rich and is aligned with the present GOP is a "wannabe" who has been duped by the all-conquering allure of money.
And Jaybaugh, the present state of affairs is fucked up, and yes, Bush is a co-conspirator. The money being wasted on Iraq, and the heightened, long term tensions in the area while we ineffectively address the threat of Al-Qaeda and Ossama Bin Laden, have conspired to run up a godawful debt, while Bush has lowered taxes on the wealthy, and added to the speculator's arsenal of fear based tools, exactly what has enabled driving the price of oil from the <$40 per barrel to highs of $150 per barrel. The price of energy can be tagged to Bush and his boneheaded global war on terror, his "Bush Doctrine" and his failure to knock off Bin Laden. And the price of energy can be tagged to the downturn of our economy.
If Bush had nuked Bin Laden on 9-12-2001, or a day or two later after demanding the Taliban turn him over in 48 hours or the like, this shit would never have happened. Fewer people (granted, different ones, and some more guilty of participating or enabling 9-11-2001, but I grant that many of the dead would have been about as innocent as the Iraqis we have killed or enabled to be killed) would have died than have died to date in Iraq and Afghanistan, way fewer would have been Americans, and the event would have cost us a clean up at perhaps $200 billion. Apparently the idea that they would have died instantly is the hang up - somehow it is more acceptable that they have been killed at a lower rate for a longer time.
The world would have gotten over it by now as well, and there would be a lot less chance of more terror, knowing the consequences. No Americans die, lots of other people die instantly, along with the bad guys. But, instead Bush presided over the complete fucking of America. Including our economy. But, hey, there are some who see the bright side. They still have the right to buy assault rifles and automatic weapons. Jim
