Tell you what, Jim, I'll make a deal with you. Limit the federal government's spending to only those things authorized by the COTUS, and I bet the rich, be they good or evil, will not harp one bit about the tax burden. Keep extra to apply to the debt, don't think they'll mind that, either. I have no issue with progressive tax rates for the real responsibilities given in the COTUS, but ask to fund the insatiable appetite of unconstitutional socialistic endeavors, and they should protest. It is wrong.
Equally wrong is the squealing about who gets the benefits of tax breaks. Tax reductions go to the folks who are paying the taxes, and whipping up those that don't with the rhetoric of "giveaways to the rich" are the worst kind of class-warfare politics there is. No, I take that back, the worst kind is "vote for me and I'll tax other people and buy you stuff with it."
Before Bear jumps on me, I'll say I detest deficit spending. But, you know why it's called deficit "spending?" It's because of spending too much . . .
The mere discussion of "tax breaks" kind of waters down your first point.
I believe mcbear once gave us a rundown of the budget, and I believe paying off the interest on the debt is the third largest chunk. You get deficit spending by not taxing enough to pay the bill. There is no other set of circumstances. Who benefits from the deficit spending? Surely you don't think the unconstitutional social experiments are actually making the recipients wealthy. Eventually all money the government hands out gets spent on something that gets back into the hands of the wealthy, since they own all the businesses that provide the goods and services that the people getting the handouts use the money for, well, except the local businesses when the handouts were actually cash, which then had the potential to be spent on other than intended goods and services.
So, regardless of how you paint it, the main beneficiaries of the government's overspending is the wealthy. They pay the lobbyists to keep the system alive, or worse, growing. They should pay more taxes. And there should be a federal and state sales tax on lobbyist services of 100%.
Tax codes should have no "tax cuts" for anyone. There should be a progressive tax rate that pays the bill. Need more money, find out who benefits the most and trace the dollars to a savings account or other place where that money accumulates to find out who is truly reaping a benefit, and then tax them to pay for the benefit they got.
