McCain embraces Gutter Politics

Will Obama be far behind?

Breaking News and Opinion on The Huffington Post

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

If Obama is not going to just fizzle away, he is going to have to roll up his sleeves and give a few shots instead of just taking them. He is going to have to point out the lies as lies, and the two facedness as more lying. Apparently he needs to find a really great telemarketer and hire it to sell his message, and then hire another dirt digging outfit, like the National Enquirer staff, to find and report salacious shit that has a grain of truth and sound like a headline. One a day would do for the next 60 days. Jim

Obama has been consistently slow to respond throughout the campaign, but he does eventually get around to it.

Yeah, but there is a "phase relationship" between the shit being slung and the response. McCain is slinging shit at a frequency that has Obama responding to shit from a day or so ago, while the press is delighting in the latest shit and it makes Obama look like he wants to spend time kneading old shit.

Obama needs to break the cycle. Go on another world trip, or wad up a bit of juicy shit and fling it himself. He is on the defensive and it is not doing him any good. That the McCain shit being slung is really only shit is not having any kind of detrimental effect on McCain. Obama needs to take note. Sling some real, genuine, shit. Every day. Until election day. Use a "surrogate" if he wants to look to be on the high road. Although that just makes him seem "uppity" and hell, there can be nothing worse than being "uppity" and even more so if you are a nigger too.

Obama needs to take charge and stop being the victim. Jim

Welcome to politics, Jim. Please don't suggest that 'your' side hasn't slung enough shit around to keep a manure spreader busy for weeks.

You might want to review political ads from the past six Presidential Election cycles [88-now]. It somewhat coincides with the rise of the NeoCons and the anything to get in power attitude.

Why is it that those few candidates with genuine ability, vision, and a moral conscience never make it off the bench when it comes to the big contest? This election provides some fine examples, including Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich, Bill Richardson, Mike Huckabee, and even Tom Tancredo (perhaps a one-trick pony, but a one-trick pony with ethics). The only one who was actually judged somewhat fairly by the electorate and found wanting was Mike Huckabee. Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich, intellectual giants of the campaign who could not be bought, were held to constant ridicule and scorn by their own parties and the representatives of a status quo who fear everything they represent. When folks like Bush and McCain dive into the gutter to talk trash and launch unfair attacks upon their opponents, their supporters think it's clever and cute. Later they shrug it off as politics as usual.

It couldn't possibly be that we get the very assholes we wholeheartedly deserve, could it?

That is one of the reasons I like the fresh face approach of Obama. He was not my first choice, ok, not my second choice either but has a chance of some difference.

You are dead on about Paul and Kucinich. For the COUNTRY, Those two SHOULD have been lining up this last 60 days for the debates and the fight. It would have had a much better, more positive outcome, no matter which won.

Huck was a wild duck in my book, but that comes from knowing too many Baptist preachers. Richardson also SHOULD have been in the top tier. Somehow guys like him never get the call. I think he will do well in a cabinet position [I am guessing Commerce]

Now, big picture, Biden is a pretty good choice. He is very smart and very experienced. He has handled pressures that most folks couldn't dream of and come out on the other side intact. People don't give him enough credit because he was always "down there on the end with Dodd".
