Hmmm! Sounds like you like Obama. I just have a few questions.
1) Why would we want those jobs to come back to America? By outsourcing to cheaper countries the corporations are able to make bigger profits. Bigger profits means bigger returns for investors. Bigger returns means more money in my pocket.
First, unless YOU are an investor, you don't get the money. But in the bigger picture, jobs back in the country add payroll, which adds to the tax base which adds to the revenue flow which add to the ability to reduce taxes as both corporations and more people are paying into the system.
2) Why move forward to new technology to power this country when we still have all of this oil left to burn? It's there we might as well use it. How much money do you think it will cost to retrofit all the cars on the road with a different technology. There is only 2 common fuels that even come close to the same A/F ratio that ICE's require to run. Anything beyond that will require at least a change of injectors, regulators, and tuning on every car in America!
First. we only have a finite amount of oil. It is not only used to power cars but also to heat homes, make plastics and many other products. When we look at it only as a "for our cars", and say "sure, we have enough", we raise the price on EVERYTHING.
Second, you don't retrofit to new technology. Most cars have a lifespan of 10-13 years then MOST are scrapped. New technology is slipstreamed into the system, much like hybrids, flexfuel and biodiesel are now. NONE are retrofits.
Third, ICE will face changes. What we now see in 5 liter motored cars which get under 20MPG will soon be 2.5-3 Liter cars with turbo boost. Same horsepower and torque WHEN NEEDED but 40% better on gas when in town [where MOST travel occurs]
3) Do you think any other President would have not gone to war? Do you remember the public outcry to go to war after 9/11? They did polls almost every day asking if we should go to war with Iraq and it was always yes. Also Bush's approval rating soared immediately after going. I think any other President would have done the same given the information at hand. I will agree that his handling of the war since then has been very lackluster.
You are blending the timelines of the aftermath of 9/11 in 2001 and the fabrications of intelligence prior to Iraq in 2003. Note that nobody complains about the war in Afghanistan as that was justified by taking war to the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Iraq, on the otherhand was NOT part of those polls and public outcries after 9/11. That was well over a year later.
