We have 300 MILLION people in this country. Not everyone is going to get to be a Systems Architect, Programmer, Broadcaster, Politician or Small Business owner. A National Economy has to have the majority of its employees doing journeyman work, producing things. It is the only way an economy survives.
Yes we are in a global economy but without jobs, we really don't get to participate. Without jobs making things we don't get to participate. There are only so many infrastructure jobs available. There are only so many service jobs available, only so many professional jobs available, only so many face to face jobs available. After that if we don't manufacture, it can, and will be outsourced.
There is nothing wrong with working in manufacturing plants, it is good honest work. It provides a solid, disciplined work environment for many people. It is the backbone that made this country what it is.
If you want to see what happens when manufacturing leaves a city, just drive a couple of miles out EAST THIRD Street in Dayton from the city center. That area from downtown to Sperling Ave used to be solid Middle Class.
There really is NO limit to the number of government jobs, just a limit to the amount of tax money available to pay for them. Not an issue, you say? Notice the TV forum Friday night about public service--government job training @minimum wage for liberals.
