Why Sarah has the X appeal

SHE is the moose-hunting mum-of-five who could soon be the second most powerful person on the planet.

Ex-beauty queen Sarah Palin has arrived out of the political — and geographical — wilderness to send shockwaves through the US Presidential race.

The gun-toting Alaskan Governor’s appointment as John McCain’s running mate has been met with glee by many conservative Republicans.

She is fiercely anti-abortion and went ahead with her pregnancy with son Trig, now five months, after learning at an early stage that he would have Down’s syndrome.

The former Miss Alaska runner-up is deeply religious and supports the teaching of creationism alongside evolution in schools.

The 44-year-old Vice Presidential candidate is also a “supermom” who has managed to run the state of Alaska while bringing up five kids.

Despite news that her unmarried daughter Bristol is pregnant at 17, Republican strategists believe her guns and God ethos will chime with Middle America.

Influential US conservative talkshow host Rush Limbaugh called Palin’s selection a “home f***ing run”.

He added in an email: “Palin = Guns, Babies, Jesus.” ...

The guns and God and unprotected sex message could just pull this thing out.

Buchanan: McCain took 'biggest gamble in presidential history'; is 'paying off, big-time'...

The risk John McCain took last Friday is comparable to the 72-year-old ex-fighter pilot knocking back two shots and flying his F-16 under the Golden Gate Bridge.

McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his co-pilot was the biggest gamble in presidential history. As of now, it is paying off, big-time.

The sensational selection in Dayton, Ohio, stepped all over the big story from Denver – Barack Obama's powerful address to 85,000 cheering folks in Mile High Stadium, and 35 million nationally, a speech that vaulted him from a 2-point deficit early in the week to an 8-point margin. Barack had never before reached 49 percent against McCain.

As the Democrats were being rudely stepped on, however, Palin ignited an explosion of enthusiasm among conservatives, evangelicals, traditional Catholics, gun owners and right to lifers not seen in decades...

I see ol Pat grabbed the Zogby poll and ran with it. Too bad he didn't look at all the polls before writing his column. There seems to be a contradiction

Actually, a characteristically nuanced column from PJ. If you know him well, you'll see he's speaking out of both sides of his mouth there.

Obambi is just now getting a little bounce from the dem convention, and every survey expert I've heard says the polls do not immediately reflect voter sentiment. It takes at least 72 hours or more for events to impact polls. So I think you are being a bit premature in your dancing and celebrating.

Take some of your own advice now and then. Or, better yet,

If the word "palin" is in it--and it is--I assume I (OT Search) got it.
