Palin slashed funding for teenage moms

ST. PAUL -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.

Not so fast, amigo. Like a lot of claims about Gov Palin we aren't shown the whole story. While it looks like a $1.1 mil cut to the approved legislative budget number, we don't know if that is a cut or a restoration to the prior year's allocation. And by looking at only one page, we don't know if the reduced number is made up in some other funding category from state, federal or private funding, such as an increase in SCHIP funds.

It would be wise to make very well researched claims about Gov Palin because if you get it wrong, the backlash will be painful.

I wouldn't waste the time. Most of these items are being floated by the Democratic party to see if anything sticks in voter's minds, which is what will come out of polling and focus groups. This was the way Clinton governed; he had few core principles as a leader, but he continually got his guidance from focus groups.

Government has no place in providing services for teen mothers who need a place to live? I thought that would be a state's rights issue.

And yes they do, by the way. Raising a child on the street would pretty much suck, endanger the child, promote crime and just be plain stupid.

But that's for poor people, it's not a Republican issue nor should it be the American thing to do. We must only encourage things that promote the strongest not the weakest. What are you? A communist?
