Interesting Build Up but E Bay claims otherwise:

I will give you this, I see this is a market I should look into more, these numb nuts are as dumb as the '69 Camaro crowd.

All of those Ebay ads are for the T4 Eurovan, which is front-drive and vastly inferior to the T3 Vanagon, which is rear engine. The T3 has achieved cult-like status, especially the campers. The Syncro 4WD versions are revered for their offroad abilities, second only to the Unimog. Incidentally, both of those 4WD systems were designed and built by Steyr-Puch in Austria.

Agreed. Not what I would ever pay, but hey, what the market will bear. Also keep in mind, the vast majority of these hyper-inflated prices are paid be folks who fully intend to drive the piss out of the cars--they're not garage queens. Probably a fair bit different than your usual collector's fodder

I am checking as we speak, but I wouldn't want to be seen in one of those, that is more embarrassing than a new Ferrari.

Only that place is listing those types of prices. Yes other places are getting far more than I would expect but nothing like the fall on the floor in convulsions, shatter a tooth on the curb, rip the lips off a sucker, and anal fuck with a hot poker prices these assholes are claiming in California.

I think there are a couple of other joints who specialize in this kind of package, but they're much smaller outfits. If I were to consider your biz model, I'd think of your proximity to the prime users of these trucks. Utah, NM, CO, NV--are all prime locales for rugged outdoorsy wannabe types. Those are your buyers, for both the Syncros and campers. Probably outside your comfort zone, but I do think you should educate yourself a bit more about these things, should a steal come your way. At least, a quality properly optioned example which is purchased at a reasonable price won't really ever lose value.

Don't even go into this shade tree shit, that is one hell of a tired old excuse that brings Lucas maladies to mind. A lame old excuse that deserves to be dragged to death in East Texas. RR is winning by the way. BMW engine or Jag is now the next question. I am tilting toward the 4.4.
Hmmmmm you know I can not comment on the current Jag engines since I have not worked on em and The bummer errr beamer engine I have seen 2 of them with holes burned in the filled exhaust valves or not really a Hole like the one in benz rider's head however a fairly deep pit. Note theses were both 2006 engines that really been ran hard.

As for the Jag engines the past ones or early ones really are delicate in terms of adjustments to keep em running!

Shade Tree? awwww shit you know? I spent 3 hours under a tree this labor day weekend replacing the left rear axle shaft that I broke (my fault) on a off road run up in the mountains (96 discovery) it really was not that hard to do just takes time well yuh know gotta have a cold one or two while doing the job..............

Range Rover.

If the X5 were a cat and RR a lion, the Escalade would be an elephant.
