Hmmmmmmm lets see a 2006 Range Rover Sports average sell price 28k to 35k.
Okeee a 2006 CADILLAC ESCALADE average sell price of what!!!? 17k to 20k with some reaching higher due to very low millage and custom crap added on.
So it looks like The Range Rover retains its value longer and higher than the Escalade due to two reasons 1. Repo Escalades are a nickle a dozzen. 2. a very high number of Escalades have had the so called "custom modifications done that actualy bring the value down on the real market.
Then in a personal opinion The Range Rover is not so undependable it is just that the shade tree mechanics just plain don't understand how to work on em.
