Is Anyone Watching this Palin Disaster Unfold? What was McCain Thinking?

Now the local Alaskan papers and the local Alaskan GOP are trashing Sarah Palin as being unsuitable to be Governor of Alaska, much less suitable for VP of the country or, with the aging McCain at the helm, the higher than typical probability of stepping in to be President.

Greg Mitchell: 2 Top Alaska Newspapers Question Palin's Fitness

Here's a quote from an Alaska State GOP head:

"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" said Lyda Green, the president of the State Senate, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

The editorials make it clear someone didn't "vet" this candidate thoroughly. This nomination is a gift to Obama and Biden. Jim

What demographic is the Palin selection aimed at?

Is it independents, disgruntled Dems, or an ambivalent GOP base that came out in droves for His Royal Numbnuts? It seems to me that indies will not be swayed, disgruntled Dems will see through an obvious and almost insulting tactic to appeal to the Hillary brigade, and the GOP base will continue to be unimpressed. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Palin will tip the scale for a small percentage of each group, but it does seem small to me. OTOH, I do realize that the folks responsible for this selection are far more knowledgeable than me on the subject, but I'm just not feelin' it yet...

I was driving back from Poulsbo yesterday and listened to local Reichwing radio for shits' n giggles. The host was gushing effusively about how this changed everything and it was the perfect choice. Halfway into the show, a caller who was clearly a fan and "of the fold" made the point that he was a native Alaskan and that Palin's ethical problems were just the tip of the iceberg. Apparently she's gotten herself involved in many more soap opera intrigues than just the trooper-gate incident. The caller indicated that she would indubitably become a Harriet Myers-like candidate who will eventually be withdrawn shortly after her floatiness is released.

I'm gossiping again...I'm so sorry

But, but, but how could this happen? I heard that she was properly vetted, and that McCain had even met her once, albeit briefly.

Hopefully all those independent minded women will realize a vote for Palin is not much different than having John McCain and the GOP tell them "Vote Republican" and then just doing as they are told.

That she is unable to figure out "creationism" is not a scientific theory is enough for me to disqualify her for any decision making role in government. Especially one where she might have an influence over the intellectual development of children. Anyone who favors indoctrination instead of education should be barred from public service. Jim
