Alaska is still a wild west kind of place. Shooting a moose out of season, or in this case without a proper license, is actually a big deal. Bigger than shooting a human being. I lived there (Anchorage) for a few years in the early to mid 1970's. I was renting a trailer home in a park of such abodes near the end of the world's busiest private plane airport. We were strapped for cash so we didn't pay our utilities on time. They shut the power off while we were at work, and, upon coming home, being an engineer, I figured I could turn the stuff back on. I went to the back of the trailer where the utility meters for electricity and gas were set up to supply trailers on my street and the next one over (trailers lined up back to back, so to speak) and started fumbling around. My neighbor, who I had never met before, from the trailer backed up to ours, came out and offered to help, seeing as how he done this many times...so I accepted his offer and in a minute the lights and gas were back on.

Three days later I read in the Anchorage newspaper that he had been shot dead in an alley downtown and the police chief was quoted as saying since he was suspected of being involved with drug trafficking there would be no investigation. Had the bastard shot a moose downtown in the alley, the state would have mounted an all out manhunt.

Same with adultery. Catch a guy screwing your wife in those days and shooting the two of them was really a clear case of temporary insanity. I mean, in a jury of your peers you couldn't find anyone who would have done something different, men or women, so they just didn't bother to spend the money to prosecute. May be a little bit different now.

I don't remember the Alaskans being such religious Christofacists though. Maybe it was not a big movement then, or maybe I just didn't see it. Jim

Gee-zus -- sounds a bit like Mississippi in the early 60's.

So, in other words, Palin interfered with an official investigation involving members of her family? An unethical conflict of interest, ending in her firing a civil servant who did not do her bidding.

This women is just another pre- programmed, neo-con robot out to Coulter-vomit no-substance talking points, and as the above shows, interested in petty vindictiveness against those her cross her path. I predict she is the beginning of the end of Neo-conism.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
