Guys, lets not make personal attacks. I was trying to make a point when there is a lack of evidence to really make any point at all.
Basically, none of you can actually prove the intentions of the current administration when they "invaded" Iraq. You can speculate, you can hypothesize, but you do not know the real truth.
I have tried to be as informed as possible, but given the polarity of the issue, and the wildly radical "opinions" expressed, I have not been able to bring myself to launch into an undeterrable quest for the truth. Because if it is out there, it is hiding in plain sight, along with a million other wild speculations, and outlandish claims of evildoing, and corruption.
I simply cannot believe that the greatest and most charitable nation in the world, the same country that fought against the Nazis and the fascists in Europe and Japan, to bring this world to a state of harmony, albeit a turbulent harmony, could be the same country that is now waist deep in a monumental clusterfuck which began because of greed and hatred.
I can only try to believe that we made the choices we made under a time of panic. I can only try to continue believing that this country is one that needs to stand united.
Look son, what you're feeling is perfectly natural - it's called cognitive dissonance. For example, there are plenty of facts that contradict your firmly held belief - that America is the greatest and most charitable nation in the world, etc. etc. etc. and you're having trouble dealing with that.
You have to choices to resolve the "pain" this is causing you. A) Accept the current truths as published (you can start with the 9/11 Commission Report, which was written by the custodians of this nation we both cherish). Or B) Concoct some unfounded fantasy scenario in which the actions of a few, specific, despicable individuals, are honorable and defensible.
Right now you've chosen B. Okay, you're human. But if you realize your statements for what they are - baseless and undeservedly optimistic prayers that make all of this badness go away - the rational side of you will have no choice but to acknowledge that you've been duped by the very people you trust.
Arguing and shouting about it louder and louder just makes it harder to gracefully acknowledge the truth. (Speaking from experience here)
Go ahead, work it out here...we're patient.
