Regarding Friends and Surprises and Out of the Blue

I am writing this paragraph last as the next one down seems to require a bit of explanation. It is not written to either brag or toot a horn as there are several members on this board who are more than able to make a list of friends that far exceed this list. The list below is merely a setup to explain the surprise I received at dinner this evening during a conversation.

Folks that know me, know that I have traveled bunches and have met a lot of folks. I have been very fortunate to meet a lot of very good people who have become friends and still have many friends from my little town in Eastern Kentucky. I have friends who have won an Emmy, Oscar, Tony, Grammy, Pulitzer, Booker. I have friends who are Generals, Astronauts, Fighter Pilots, just retired Chief of Nurses for the Navy, Congressman, Federal Judge, State Chief Supreme Court Judge and more brass than I can count. CEOs of EVERY sized business, 1 Billionaire, Academics from many disciplines, TV Anchors, Evangelists and Monks. Former NFL players, NBA players, NASCAR, IMSA, Olympic Silver medalist and participants in Ironman, Tour de France. I also count the many people on this board, two other fora, a couple of street people and more others than I can really count in this list.

I have truly been blessed with a diverse group of friends throughout life. I have the ability to either call or email so many different people, on five continents to ask advice or share a joke or interesting story. I am seldom surprised.

And then there was this evening.

All of the above is to describe the normalcy of my life as I wander through it, seldom surprised, seldom shocked, seldom flummoxed.

Tonight at dinner a friend told me of a mutual friend, a 28 year Masters Degreed Accountant. He changed careers. Seems that, based on a strong demand from the Japanese market he is now making a profitable living as a Goth Porn Star. ALL of my registers have been recalibrated.
