Ocean View Amusement Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ocean View Amusement Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ocean View Amusement Park was located at the end of Granby Street at Ocean View Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. Ocean View Beach Park now exists on the former site. The amusement park was featured in the 1977 movie Rollercoaster. The wooden coaster depicted in the movie was called "The Rocket". The last day the park was open to the public was during the filming of Rollercoaster. The wooden coaster was destroyed as part of the making of The Death of Ocean View Park in 1979.

Ocean View Amusement Park had five coasters, including "The Rocket" and "Figure Eight". The history of the park is featured at the Ocean View Station Museum in Norfolk Virginia.

Very much in danger the Screechin Eagle is one of the best Miller & Baker coasters ever built. Moved to Lesourdsville Lake (formally Americana) in 1938 this wonderful out and back only re-opened in 2002 after the park closed its doors for the previous 2 seasons. The park once again closed its doors in 2003 and is not scheduled to reopen any time soon.
he Cyclone at Moxahala Amusement Park 1927 to 1938
Moved to LeSourdsville Lake Park 1939
The Cyclone 1939 to 1961
The Space Rocket 1961 to 1977
The Screechin' Eagle 1977 to 2002

This was one of the greatest wooden coasters I ever rode on. My grandfather managed the place in the 50's and 60's and early 70's so when we were kids we went a lot. It shook and raddled so much and the only thing holding you in was a strap. It used to give me belly ticklers every time I rode it. I still have a scar on my knee from where I almost got thrown.

I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way.
