Fuck that damn series. I am so fucking tired of hearing about the fucking 560SL's I just want to puke. It was a great car in its day and age but the '90 to '02 is ten times the car dynamically, stylistically, and mechanically. The old '72 to '89 is so overplayed and used up it has all the cach'e of a Hyundai. A see fewer Honda Accords for cryin' out loud. Egads people there are other choices!
I for one never really catered to that body style so go figure. Buy a '96 600SL as it will only be a toy so who cares about the gas. You should get a good one for high teens. Those cars haul ass, have long lived engines, and you can embarrass the track junkie in the race prepped, roll bar, fart pipe, Miata. That is just about priceless.

This from a guy who pulls into a gas station in some old pimp-ass Caddy, orders four quarts of transmission fluid and a fillup, slipping the attendent a wad that pays the nightclub bill for the month for some sheik in Dubai. I doubt some guy with a garage full of GM Refugees-From-a-Harlem-Used-Car-Lot can appreciate a really fine automobile, especially since he has to spend so much time at the repair shop, or cleaning oil and transmission fluid spots from his garage floor. The only relief we get from him is on the days his GM dinosaur radiators explode on the Stemmons Freeway, which is thankfully, a common occurance.
Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
