Clearly, it's all about control of the spice, and nothing to do with spreading/defending democracy. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, to find out that our policies aren't predicated on lofty ideals at the behest of a benevolent god

Busted.

Ever hear of the school of mind our own effing business? That would be the school I attended. I oppose intervention in Georgia for the same reason I oppose intervention in Iraq.

I'm certainly not advocating intervention anywhere, but if we were to follow our oft bandied about self righteous rhetoric, then it's hard to imagine why we're not stepping up to impose our will upon a threat to an emerging democracy

Please America, stay out of it and let the UN take up this problem.

Oh, those guys. They wouldn't let me in their club, even if I wanted in. I know you know how that is.

While I do not agree with the current approach, the world is too small and connected to ever attempt isolationism again. It would be dangerous as well, beyond neglectful, and impossible to return to imaginary halcyon days of yore. This medley smells familiar though.

There is an enormous chasm that separates isolationist (one form of extremism) from interventionist (another form of extremism) foreign policy. You are not alone, I've noticed many Americans seem to have great difficulty finding that middle ground, enormous though it is. Too used to sticking our nose in where it is neither needed nor wanted, they are. I have no doubt it is a uniquely American deficiency.

Yes but Iraq could never build a ballistic base in Cuba, have submarines flirting with our shores and gobble up the Baltic region and Eastern Europe. We really shot our load on the wrong bitch and now Jayhawk and company are crying like babies accusing libs of being warmongers. This is the perfect test of how our international policies are unfolding in terms of REALLY protecting our interests. The Iraq war was fought for the interests of Bush's friends and to protect Israel but now that we are truly nudged to show if we have what it takes to be a "superpower" we're only capable of shooting blanks.
