It calculates for up to 2004 which, at the time was the highest [besides 1981] price for gas when adjusted for inflation.
Using 2005 dollar as the base, 1963 era gas was $1.95 per gallon. That is an inflation adjusted number. Current [for the time] dollars was $0.30 for regular. And in the 60s there were constant "Gas Wars" that took prices down to $.19.
Seems you didn't take the next step and compare to disposable income.
