I share your sentiments. It happens at most Olympics, but this one was actually awe inspiring. The ceremonies didn't need any fake fireworks for tv, the show on the floor in the "Bird's Nest" was done by humans and in itself was what moved me. Each new set was a demonstration of what HUMANS can do. I was awed by the moving columns, and suspected they were being moved by humans, but when the tops popped off and the humans inside smiled and waved when they were done, it was really amazing to realize they did that virtually blind - the columns from one row in to the middle had no real way to see what was going on at all.
Great ceremony, and yes, a very optimistic, hopeful message of humans striving to achieve harmony with nature and each other. Wish it was a message that resonated with more of my fellow Americans. Jim
