The world will have a whole new and very positive image of China after this. It is incredible. There is a guy on wires carrying/floating the torch in mid-air around the top of the entire stadium! WOW!! An amazing feet of engineering and art. He just lit the torch at the top of the stadium, and the whole place has their mouth agape! And now the fireworks are lighting up the night sky in an amazing fashion. Hard to believe... Breathtaking!

Simply amazing, visually stunning, artistic perfection. The bar had been raised, the next hosting City I think London will have to throw some serious money into their Olympic preparation and opening ceremony.

Any City who wants to bid for the Summer Olympics in the future will have to live up to what is transpiring in Beijing right now.

The Olympics are about sport and soley sport, it is not about politics. Now, and i quote, better dead than red, yes i agree. But this came about when communism meant just that and todays China is far from communistic.

It is more socialistic, if you understand. I have said previously on this thread that China still has a long way to go before it can solve its problems, but they are working on these problems.

Dont expect to change a country that has been communist for more than 50 years to change in one year/month/day. Its simply not realistic and Russia learned that the hard way.

Please remember this thread is about sport and not politics because i dont give a fuck for politics in any country

ERIC.

Where is everybody's Olympics Spirit, Pierre de Coubertin founded the modern Olympics to build a peaceful and better world. The Olympic Spirit which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play .

Differences should be put aside and enjoy the games.

In general I agree that sports are apolitical, but in the case of the Olympics politics is everything. China was on the map economically and strategically before getting the summer games, but the Olympics has really put them on the international political map--big time. And I think that's a good thing!

Did you happen to notice all of the international political leaders in the stands for the opening ceremony?

Don't believe everything you think
