House Republicans go back on the Floor to talk gas prices

Continuing with their guerilla tactics from last week, House Republicans will be back on the floor Monday to talk gas prices, even though Congress is in recess, and they may stay there all week.

More than a dozen Republicans have already committed to make appearances, according to House GOP leadership aide, including National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Cole (Okla.).

GOP: Lift drilling ban or risk shutdown

The showdown on Capitol Hill over expanding offshore drilling could lead to a threatened government shutdown when Congress returns from its five-week summer break in early September.

Some Republicans say they are prepared to vote against a resolution to fund the federal government for the 2009 fiscal year unless Democrats agree to lift an offshore drilling moratorium. If the budget resolution fails, many agencies and departments would be denied money to operate and would be forced to close.

All you have to do is get some microcephalic activist to show a picture of some miserable, oil-besotted baby seal and the possibility of education and compromise evaporates.

So now we get this Gang of 10 bunch who are doing their level-best to turn a profitable venture for the taxpayer into yet another of a seemingly endless series of government-run liabilities. Congress never ceases to amaze.

The plan that the current Administration proposes is not unlike the one that has been proposed for the past 25 years and is nothing more than a Drilling Permit. That is what is opposed.

As for what the folks on the left perceive, it is tainted by action of Exxon and their Valdez reactions, walking on Gulf beaches, fear of another spill like Santa Barbara and the general arrogance of the industry to clean up after its shit without very firm government insistence.

I don't quite see how you see th Gang of 10 turning a profitable venture "for the taxpayer" into another government run liability. You might want to read their proposal. I think you might be confused.

First, I was unaware Exxon and Chevron were generating profits "for the taxpayer". Second, I don't find where this becomes a government run anything.

So how much money is this little photo op costing the taxpayer? Extra security that would have been on vacation has to be back, any maintenance that would be done in this window has to be postponed. Staff will have to be paid overtime.

Nice play kids. And we wonder why Congress is held in such low esteem.

From the two articles YOU posted, looks like the filibusters and lack of compromise are coming from the RIGHT on the Energy Bill.

Anything to show proof otherwise?
