I have no experience with the new porsches. With the vettes, I got mixed results in the 80s and early 90s. My two 82 Collector Editions [each with under 12K miles] were both electrical nightmares. The 89 was OK but had intake issues and heads that warped twice. The ZR1, on the other hand was an absolute dream. It was the most reliable vehicle I have owned. And with the six speed manual would run 32 MPG on the hiway at 75MPH. The early 90s Benzes are also some of the most reliable vehicles I have seen but am noticing that age related issues [bushing/seals/rubber] are starting to put some new costs into the cars. Not a problem as they will last another 25 years [depending on gas supply]

My mother's '76 911S never once presented any mechanical issues of note, unlike the new CRX she owned at the time. In fact, my stepdad's '73 Superbeetle was way way more reliable than the CRX. Hell, he had to tow the Honda with the bug on three separate occasions.

It seems to me that Porsche of taday have far less problems than Mercedes Benz or BMW.

Ah yes, the Boxter...a Porsche "for the masses" (a.k.a. modern-day 944).

Friend had a mustang 5.0 while we were in law school. It had 180,000 miles on the original motor and was abused and raced out of its mind. He sold it and it was still running fine although it was ugly. It was an ex Texas highway patrol LX notchback, so you know it had a tender life before him. Not.

In the first year out he is doing better than expected and buys a new Boxster S, one of the first ones to hit Dallas. Tranmisson fails at 50k miles. Engine blows at 70k miles. His new M3 (again one of the first in Dallas) he bought at the same time still runs with over 100k miles on it now, but the Boxster rattles, creaks, groans, and goes to the shop twice as much as the M.
