A Benz Thread, with a Bearish Twist.

I have spent the past hour or so going through my 124 forum, checking different threads, cleaning up duplicate posts and squaring up the photo threads so that they remain Photo threads. Looking through the past 6 months of photos posted I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the cars, all between 14-22 years old, many with 300,000 miles on them.

What really struck me was a few cars that are simply amazing looking. They are as good as anything NEW on the street. So I thought I would share them with you. They belong to Zorro, Zedstyle, Chrisdpham, EvoGuy, Paddski, 500ezin and AMG30E.

Was this the model that became the AMG "Baby Hammer"? That's the first car I heard of that made me aware of what AMG did for Mercedes...I was blown away by it.

The HAMMER was a 1986 W124 with a W126 32 valve motor. Usually a sedan but sometimes built as a coupe and once as a wagon. This was prior to AMG being bought by Mercedes.

If you get to come to the Kentucky housewarming in October you will see one of the under 10 original North American Hammers here. Jono should have his restoration finished by then.

There is a very GRAY and fuzzy number as to exactly how many were built. It is as if Carrol Shelby was somehow involved. Tracking down the paperwork, with all the correct docs is a real pain. Took me forever with my 88 SEC. Jono had the same issue but resolved it.

It is the reason I go after 500Es. They are of the same bloodline.

Beautiful cars! Thanks for sharing. But I noticed that they all appear to be pretty heavily modified in one way or another. Are there no really good looking stock/OEM cars anymore?

Don't believe everything you think

Tons of dead stock ones. Go to the 124 pic sticky. There are 31 pages of pics.

And most of those are simply either AMG or Brabus aero kits and wheel/suspension. Zorro's is the most modified with carbon fibre touches on the interior.

In a couple months, I'll have the front hood, bumpers and body cladding painted, so then I can post up pics of my S124 "Mallet". Just got done upgrading the chassis, with Limo/500E bars, new OEM Sportline bushings, SL600 Silver Arrow brakes Fr/Rr and H&R springs. I have the same front lower valance to cover up my FMIC as the car in the third pic. Long live the 124

The first one is the only good looking one but it has been lowered too far. The rest look like Eastern Block refugee pimps with a Bangkok penchant. I see no difference between those overblown nasties than the pimped out Cadillacs in 007's Live And Let Die.

Actually, I probably agree, but I think the second looks the best. I'm really not too much into the in-your-face bling look. I'd rather a car have the performance basics covered v. the silly wings n' things stuff.
