You brought up Korea so I naturally believed you were making the 1 implies 2 comparison.
What is this positive direction of which you speak? PM Maliki and his Shiiti majority are building a strong relationship with Iran that gets stronger daily. I just don't see the "liberal democracy" emerging from Iraq. I see the democracy that we fostered turning a direction that we did not anticipate or want [much like Gaza]. Do you have some evidence of that "liberal Democracy" which isn't showing up in the news on a daily basis?
How could "we" not anticipate a Shiite majority Iraq installing a Shiite-friendly government? The fly in the ointment is the
unspoken truth (among many unspoken truths) of the Bush administration, that the plan all along was a permanent S. Korea-style occupation. The reality is that you do not create allies by killing their mothers, fathers, sons and daughters, then imposing a form of government upon them which they do not abide. Surprisingly enough, as soon as you stop pointing your gun at them, they become your enemy.
