LA I can see. But NYC, you might try flying into Stewart up in Newburgh. The rates for rentals are cheaper there, the drive down the Taconic is one of the best drives in the country and getting in and out of Stewart is like a small town airport. Beats hell out of LGA or Kennedy.
I haven't checked but I'll bet my flight arrival and departure times out of Stewart
are pretty scarce. There are no direct flights where I come from.
I do La Guardia, Newark and Philly. I prefer the fly in drive out route

I just take cabs in NYC. $30 or so in and out to LGA and never touch a car. On one trip where I drove up from Kentucky because I had to see clients in Clarksburg WV and DC. Parked the car and did not touch it for eight weeks. Cost $1,200 just for parking.

McBear,

Being smart is knowing the difference, in a sticky situation between a well delivered anecdote and a well delivered antidote - bear.
