The Garage - Work Continues.

Well, we have had 10 good work days and the garage is coming along. Today lumber was delivered. Apparently the driver tried to compete with the concrete driver of last week and took my power, phone and cable lines out with his truck. Concrete just took out phone and cable. All were fixed in 3 hours. Dang!

I start the framing tomorrow. I have a framer with 25 years experience [and who doesn't drink] showing up at 7am so things should move quickly.

I was warned by previous owner that the neighbor who lives in the house you can see with the big white garage door in her back right of her house was VERY nosy and the Queen Bee of the neighborhood.

So when she first came over to "worry" the brick layers I came out and she asked what I was building.

An indoor target range.

It seemed like a good answer at the time. The folks at the zoning office, who knew what I was building actually thought it was funny when they called my contractor who I have known for 35 years "just to make sure".

Then she was worried that there would be water drainage issues. The Bobcat operator screamed "Jesus lady, we're building a garage, not a fountain"

I am just not sure how this neighborhood thingie is going to work out. I got him another beer.

I got a duessie like that across the street in Santa Fe. She is a trip and a half, really can't dislike her, but she is so extreme.

She is divorced [big surprise] so I doubt anyone will miss her. She has lived there since 1969. Bought the house for $36K. She has not done anything except put on the back deck, build the little retaining wall [to stop the previous owner of my house's water] and finally re-blacktop her driveway after 40 years. Original Kitchen and baths and everything. And she apparently drinks - a lot.

But I don't need the chemical reaction screwing up the curing of my concrete.

Why the block foundation instead of
pouring concert walls?

Are you matching another structure?

Who does? That's why you wrap her in environmental liner.

I've said too much....

We poured a concrete foundation below the block 24 inches below surface for the freeze issues. Rebar is interwoven in both the concrete foundation and the block and concrete is in the first three runs [which is why it is so sloppy].

Once done, it will get a stone surface. The garage shell is wood siding and brick to match the house.
